MYTUJEMY CARD #01 – SUSZONE POMIDORY, POZNAŃ

Can Wilda district become the Informal Capital of Pizza! Definitely YES! Suszone Pomidory at Św. Czesława Street every day are visited by people from Poznan & beyond, who are willing to try famous pizza & delicious pasta.

Who is responsible for this kind of success? How the idea of Suszone Pomidory appeared in owners’ minds? And finally… who are the people, who created the Best Poznan Restaurant in 2016? Read below to discover the whole story!

HOW DID ALL START?

Suszone Pomidory restaurant is created by the duo in life and at work – Leszek & Jagoda, who are connected with gastronomy for many years now. Jagoda has always loved cooking – her family run the gastronomy business, so she always was kept close to the business. As a kid she spent every moment behind the counter, looking over the cooks preparing food. Leszek spent several years working at the restaurants in European cities. Australia, Thailand and many other places. Now? It’s time for Poznan and for Italian food… and creating something by themselves!

SUSZONE – HERE WE GO!

The idea emerged in owners’ minds few years ago, but it was the funding from the European Union that gave them the courage to fulfill their dreams. The biggest adventure began – searching the place to open their own restaurant. And here – so many problems!  Bad location, too small kitchen, lack of the garden… In the end, when there was no hope, Jagoda & Leszek found a little place in a basement at Św. Czesława Street. Although all of their friends made fun of their choice, pointing to the dark history of Wilda and its inhabitants, they knew they did a right thing. Jagoda mentioned to us that one of the neighbours came over and said her in the face: “Oh my god… Every restaurant opened here was closed after several months… You’re gonna regret this!”

Leszek & Jagoda personally took care of repairs of the place – they planned whole restaurant, with furnitures, decorations and more. Their pride and joy, however, was a garden with a great view at Poplińskich Street. The owners were enchanted by old, but still kept in excellent condition townhouses and simply – a unique atmosphere of thisvery extraordinary place! Then, it was time for foodies work – creating a simple menu containing a thin-crust pizza, a few appetizers and pasta, all prepared with natural ingredients. During our conversation Jagoda told us that most of the vegetables used in the dishes served in Suszone Pomidory comes from her family fields. How cool is that?

To the question whether they are going to create a second Suszone Pomidory, they almost unanimously answered: if can be cloned, of course!

RESTAURANT OF THE 2016 (more)

Fame of Suszone Pomidory surprised Jagoda and Leszek almost immediately! Suddenly everyone heard about a new Italian restaurant located in Wilda district and wanted to try the best pizza in town. Word of mouth marketing caused so many reservations and clients, that the owners could not imagine! Next step? Opening a new space! The new room is a result of hard work – the owners turned the forgotten, old and dusty basement into a climate space, with brick walls, fresh flowers and comfortable, blue sofa. More space = more delicious food = more pizza! Therefore, it was no surprise that Suszone Pomidory won our The Restaurant Of The Year 2016 plebiscite. The statuette stands so proudly in a prominent place in Suszone Pomidory and it is only a confirmation of what we all know: the food served here is delicious!
