WHERE TO EAT?
FOKIM, Krucza 24/26 / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / WWW
WHAT WE ATE?
- aromatic PHO with fresh herbs and shrimps (PLN 21.30)
- FOKIM – pho (original FOKIM recipe) with kimchi, soft-boiled egg, fresh herbs and shrimps (PLN 25.60)
- BAO Thai Curry – BAO Thai Curry – shrimps, green curry, coconut milk, lemon grass (PLN 16.70)
- BAO Crab – soft shell cram tempura, crab mayonnaise, lime, coriander (PLN 22.60)
- FOKIM SWEET – brownie, white chocolate ice cream, hot chocolate sauce (PLN 28.90)
A place known for its pinky visual identity, impeccable interior design, EAT DRINK DANCE RIOT philosophy and… a totally sick cuisine! In the menu, you’ll find dishes inspired by three continents: Europe, Asia and South America. Interestingly, the very name of the restaurant is the combination of two words – FO (pho) and KIM (kimchi).
While visiting FOKIM, it is worth getting tempted to try its specialties – warming pho soups and steamed BAO buns typical of Chinese cuisine. Truth be told… we thought we were eating a slightly upgraded version of our Greater Poland pyzy. FOKIM SWEET is also an attention-grabber – a super sweet dessert made of chocolate dough and served with a block of white chocolate. We do recommend that you eat it before or instead of dinner – there’s no chance you’ll stomach this sugary delicacy after the main dish! We dare you – if you eat it all, let us know. If it wasn’t enough, the official hashtag of the place, #sofokimgood, not only sounds incredibly catchy, but also, and definitely, tells the truth! PS. Take a break from eating and go to the toilet – the films shown there will stay with you for a long time.
WARSZAWA POWIŚLE, Kruczkowskiego 3b / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM
WHAT WE ATE FOR BREAKFAST?
- Scrambled eggs on butter (PLN 7.90) with bread (PLN 2.10), spinach (PLN 4.60) and cherry tomatoes (PLN 3.90)
- toasts with cheese, ham and home-made ketchup (PLN 11.70)
- 3 frankfurters (PLN 11.40)
- Eggs Benedict (PLN 12.40)
WHAT WE ATE FOR DINNER?
- pierogi with meat (PLN 17.90) + cucumber salad (PLN 6.90)
- pork chop (PLN 21.59) + baked potatoes (PLN 7.80) + cucumber salad (PLN 6.90) + kopytka (PLN 8.90)
On the second day, we ended up in a more traditional and far less exotic place. Located in the old Warszawa Powiśle railway station, the restaurant counters its totally hipster outlook by serving delicious Polish cuisine! Menu is based on the so-called add-ons, the elements from which you can arrange a meal to satisfy your current mood. Everything is always fresh and season-specific. Apart from a giant portion of scrambled eggs and the breakfast menu in general, the restaurant offers home-made dinners. A pork chop with a fried egg is something you should try if you want to come back to childhood. Do you remember your grandmas telling you to leave potatoes but eat meat? Dinners at Warszawa Powiśle evoke these kinds of memories. While reading reviews of the place on Facebook we find the best confirmation of what we can eat there:
“Don’t tell it to my mom, but Warszawa Powiśle serves the best pierogi ruskie in the world” – tasty meals make tasty reviews…couldn’t be more true!
We could talk about the climate of this place for hours – a historic building where people of different social status and age meet and sit by the tables on the pavement under the bridge. The best thing to do is to grab a cup of delicious coffee and watch (a real treat for sociologists and psychologists)! Another option is to grab one of the craft beers served at Warszawa Powiśle. But that’s 18+ only!
WELES, Nowogrodzka 11 / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / WWW
WHAT FOR DRINK?
- PORNSTAR MARTINI – vanilla vodka, passion fruit, vanilla, lime, slug of champagne (PLN 39)
- LELUM POLELUM – branca menta, blackcurrant liqueur, golden syrup, lemon, egg white (PLN 28)
- RÓŻA BEZ KOLCÓW – vodka with white pepper, luxardo maraschino, rose petal syrup, lemon, egg white (PLN 26)
- KRÓLEWSKA PURPURA – genever, amaretto, creme de cassis, cabernet sauvignon, mint and lime cordial, fernet blanca (PLN 33)
A mysteriously hidden place in the very center of the city known only to the locals and those who diligently scroll through Instagram in search of some city marvels. We think that the most characteristic feature of the place is the most gorgeous chandelier in the entire capital – the only source of light in this otherwise dark space. Sitting on one of the velvet sofas and sipping a perfect drink from the golden menu, you’ll feel the atmosphere of the 1930s. The toilet is filled with the scent of fresh lilies and opera sounds. We’re certain that the entire setting of the place will give you a kick, for this will not be a visit – this will be an experience watched over by a god of the underworld and magic.
GOOD TO KNOW: Weles (Polish for Veles) is a Slavic god of magic, oaths, art, craft, merchants and, most importantly, wealth. Read on to find out something more about the last one.
SYRENI ŚPIEW, Szara 10a / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / WWW
Located in a modernist building from the 1970s, the place is a real gem among party spots in Warsaw. A perfect destination after a lavish meal, in which you’ll not only burn calories, but also dance to the rhythm of live music. Fashion industry events such as magazine premieres (Unpolished Magazine), models’ (Zuzanna Bijoch) and stylists’ birthday parties take place here quite frequently. We’ve been to a couple of those and, every time, the fun was great!
WHAT TO SEE?
CONCEPT STORE YES, Mokotowska 57
It’s one of those places where jewelry art meets an extraordinarily arranged space. A unique concept store of the Poznan-based brand YES, located in Rodryg Mroczykowski old house at Mokotowska 57, is a jewelry showroom with a gallery of the already iconic photographs from the past YES Calendar editions and a collection of the best fashion magazines and albums, from Vogue to Unpolished Magazine. The #MYTUJEMY touch? Of course it’s there. Each guest may try a macaroon in various shades of blue.
MO61 PERFUME LAB, Mokotowska 61
Since we discover the city mostly through our senses, we wouldn’t be ourselves if we hadn’t visited this place. We are the enthusiasts of the sense of taste…but we are certainly not indifferent to the sense of smell. MO61 is a place were perfume know-it-alls will create a dream come true scent especially for you. You are the one to choose all the accords. That’s why you should get MO61 perfumes if you’re looking for a unique “souvenir” from the capital or a one-of-a-kind gift for a loved one.
NARODOWA GALERIA SZTUKI ZACHĘTA / E: BOGACTWO, Małachowskiego 3
Splendor, the irresistible need for luxury and fame, red carpets and Hollywood step and repeat banners – all of it inspired the authors of works displayed in the “Money to burn” exhibition. In the white halls of the Gallery at Malachowskiego, we see the play with stereotypes and symbols – Polish fantasies and ideas of wealth are being exposed in front of our eyes. The #MYTUJEMY touch? The AMBER KEBAB exposition created by Maria Toboła. We would have eaten it all with pleasure if we hadn’t been watched by the security. A tip for those willing to visit the gallery – Thursdays are admission free.
